History

The history of MICL has its roots in the four-decade-old Modern Group of Companies that has been serving the steel industry since 1974.

Initiating with Rana Udyog Pvt. Ltd., the Modern Group of Companies quickly established itself as an organization of repute. The formation of Gayson & Co. Pvt. Ltd. opened up new avenues in the export market. Soon Bharat Roll Industry Pvt. Ltd., Modern India Steel Rolling Mills Pvt. Ltd. and Modern Ispat Pvt. Ltd. joined the proud family.

MICL was set up to cash in on the never before boom in the demand of manganese alloys in the beginning of the millennium. Gayson and Co. Pvt. Ltd. had been trading in manganese alloys since long. Seeing the market potential, the Group launched MICL, its manganese alloys manufacturing wing.

The first unit of MICL was set up in 2004 at Bishnupur in West Bengal. A huge acceptance in global markets like South East Asia, Europe and the Middle East prompted the Company to spread its wings further. A 100% Export Oriented Unit was set up near the deep sea port of Haldia, West Bengal in 2010. With a total installed capacity of 175,000 MT/ annum, it is today a force to be reckoned with in the global steel industry.
